Can you believe kids are heading back to school already?

For me, this summer has flown by.

Are you ready?

One of my favorite things to do on the first day of school is snap a quick picture of each child with a sign telling what grade they are in.

The photos are cute, but it may also be for selfish reasons – the signs in the photo help me keep the photos organized. Each already tells me if it was the first or last day, and what grade it was from.

In the past, I’ve used a small chalkboard for these photos.

Last year, during the busy season of having a newborn, the first and last days of school snuck up on me.

On both mornings, while the kids got ready for school, I ran around like a crazy lady trying to find our chalkboard. And a piece of chalk.

Apparently not an easy task – be prepared mamas!

It made everything feel hectic, not like an exciting day. Definitely not what I was hoping to offer them.

This year, to make it easier for me and all of you, the signs are already made and ready to be printed.

Below are free printable signs for the ‘First Day of School’, along with matching ‘Last Day of School’ signs. You’ll find matching signs for Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten – 12th grade.

Whatever grade your kids are in – we’ve got you covered!

Each sign can be printed on standard 8.5×11 card stock or paper. Just download the PDF and print in color.

Don’t forget to Pin this post to save it so you can print the matching ‘Last Day of School’ signs in the spring!

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star First Birthday Party (with FREE Printables)

Somehow, the baby turned ONE in May. To celebrate we did a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star party. Her decorations were very simple.

Lights

These Paper Star string lights were a simple addition to set a ‘twinkling’ mood for the party.

Entryway Picture Wall

A picture wall welcomed guests in the entryway. It was fun to pick out our favorite 4×6 photos from the first year. To keep with the theme we added a few patterned scrapbook paper stars.

Birthday Photo Banner

Every birthday at our house includes a large photo banner strung across the main room. The banner includes one picture per month from the previous year intermixed with a birthday message – Audra Grace Is One. Clothes pins covered with pink sparkle washi tape gave the black and white banner a pop of color and ‘twinkle‘.

Cake

To make cake-smashing fun for the baby who cries when her hands are dirty (maybe she’ll be the cleanest child), we opted for a tri-color layer cake with simple white frosting between layers. It’s not fancy, but worked great (she didn’t really like touching squishy cake layers either so I am grateful for time saved by not frosting the whole thing!)

Decorations

Now for some simple decorations you can print at home.

You guys, I am so excited to announce the first FREE printables from thisgratefulmama!

A Sweet Baby Girls Room

I’ve been wanting to share our baby girl’s bedroom since before she was born.

She’s 10 months old.

Procrastinate much?

I guess she’s still a baby…it still counts, right?

Decorating a baby girl room is so fun, but I also find it more challenging than a boy’s room. So much girl stuff seems overly gaudy – with more frills than this mama could handle.

I was shocked by how expensive baby bedding can be – so much money for such tiny things! Many sets come with accessories you don’t plan to use, and who wants to pay for that?

It took hours of searching online to find the Babyletto In Bloom bedding – sweet and girly, but not frilly. I love the combination of coral and navy. If you like it, shop around. It comes in different combinations of accessories, and is carried by quite a few stores. (I snagged mine for about half the price at Kohls using a 30% off coupon and a Kohls Birthday $10 off reward)

Crib and Artwork

Now for artwork.

ABC Photo1

First, we used the Etsy ABC digital artwork we already purchased for our other daughter’s Ballerina and Flamingo Bedroom.

All Gods Grace 2All God’s Grace Wooden Sign from Hobby Lobby when we found out we were pregnant (Always, always use a coupon or buy on sale at Hobby Lobby).

Every time I look at it, it makes me smile.

Ok. Enough money spent! Now for some free stuff.

You guys, there are SO many free printables online from amazing and talented bloggers, photographers and graphic designers.

Amazing stuff.

Just look at what I printed and framed at home!

You are Capable 1

This You are Capable of Amazing Things printable from BrePurposed is adorable and really compliments the In Bloom bedding. She has many more beautiful options to choose from.

Changing Table ArtYou can’t go wrong with the Psalm 4:7 and 1 Peter 1:6 printables from Danielle Burkleo.

I also love her Bless The LORD Oh My Soul printable and may still frame it to use somewhere else in the house. She has so many fun options, for boys, girls, or anywhere in your home.

We love how the bedding, decals and artwork look together, and Audra sure seems to like it.

A Couples Wedding Shower

A Couples Wedding Shower | www.thisgratefulmama.com

It was our pleasure to host a couples wedding shower in honor of our nephew Brandon and his bride-to-be, Lauren.

Our nephew grew up and graduated high school in MN but has since moved out-of-state. Lauren had never come to MN with Brandon to see where he spent his childhood, nor had she met some of his family and friends who live here. They were able to fit in just one short visit before the wedding – it was the perfect, and only chance to throw a wedding shower.

Since the couple came in late Friday and left on Sunday, Saturday was the only day available to throw a shower. We chose brunch so they could make the most of their only full day in town. Having the shower in the morning left the rest of the day open for the couple to explore his old stomping grounds.

This post includes the special touches to ‘shower’ the couple. I’ll follow-up in another post with the food we served for brunch.

For more shower ideas, check out another couples wedding shower we threw last year- A Laid-back Open House Couples Shower.

Invitations

DIY Network Shower Invitation Template | www.thisgratefulmama.com

The shower invitation was modified from this free invitation template from the DIY network. All text can be modified so it could easily be used for any type of event! Who would have expected to find free invitation templates on the DIY Network site? There are a few other options available – in fact, I almost picked this free Nautical template instead.

Date Night Idea Card

A stamped note card was included in each invitation for guests to write date night ideas for the bride and groom. Guests came up with all kinds of creative ideas.

His & Hers – 10 Favorite Moments Together

His and Her Favorite 10 Moments

Before Brandon and Lauren arrived, we asked each of them to email 10 of their favorite moments together. Originally, I planned to display two short lists using a chalkboard or poster. BUT, they sent beautifully written paragraphs that told their story with genuine affection and honesty. Condensing their moments into a short list would have taken away the emotion and love their words conveyed. Instead of changing them, each paragraph was printed and posted on the wall for guests to read as they mingled.

DIY “We Do” Wedding Shower Photo Banner

DIY WE DO Wedding Shower Photo Banner

Every bride-and-groom-to-be needs a banner in their honor – that is just the way it is! We asked the couple to send us some of their favorite photos. Text and photos were printed on cardstock in black and white. The text flags were cut and lined with patterned tape. The same tape was used to decorate clothes pins. It was quick and easy – just peel and stick! I actually used the other side of the patterned paper decorated clothes pins used to hang the You Are My Sunshine photo banner. The flags and photos were strung using twine across our kitchen.

Coffee Station Photo Banner

I found this free printable about love and coffee (I lightened the exposure so it could be printed without draining our ink cartridges) to hang by the coffee station. Like the “We Do” banner, it was strung with twine alongside two more black and white photos using clothes pins.

Gift Table

Wedding Shower Cards Garland and Gift Table

Two banners were made for gifts – one hung on the gift table, and one hung above it for cards. Guests used a clothes pins to clip their cards to the twine and left their gifts and date night cards on the table.

I Have Found The One…Sign

I Have Found The One Whom My Soul Loves | www.thisgratefulmama.com

I love this verse from Song of Solomon, especially for a wedding shower. This photo (changed to black and white using Pic Monkey) was printed on cardstock and applied to an 8×10 canvas using Modge Podge. The sign was placed on the gift table in the entryway for the shower and will be hung in our bedroom.
